Feel like a local: Go around Athens using the public means of transportation

The Athens transportation network covers a wide variety of routes within the city combining different means: the urban buses, the yellow trolley buses, the Athens Metro, the suburban railway and the tram. With an integrated ticket at a cost of €1,40 you can move around Athens for 90 minutes using one or more means of transport.

You can buy tickets from all metro and train stations as well as kiosks on the street and get an Athens metro map for free. Alternatively, you can purchase a 24 hour all-inclusive pass (€4,5) or a 5-day weekly pass (€9). Tickets are validated either in the bus, or before boarding the metro or the tram.

The fine for a non-validated ticket is 60 times its value. The buses and yellow trolleys will not stop automatically if you are standing at the stop, you have to make a gesture, or else they will keep going! Likewise when you are on board you have to signal the driver for a stop by pushing one of the red buttons.
