The port of Diakofti has a beautiful beach with exotic touches, ideal for children

When one visits the port of Diakofti and its beach, it is only logical to wonder whether they are in some exotic island of the Caribbean! The water is shallow and turquoise and the sand is white.

Located on the northeast side of the island, in one of the most beautiful sites of Kythera next to the harbor, the swallow beach is ideal for small children. In the taverns by the shore you can taste fresh fish, seafood and traditional Greek cuisine.

A few meters away from the harbor you can also see the shipwreck that took place a few years ago and has become one of the island’s points of interest. East of Diakofti we find the Chousti cave, covering an area of 800 sq. meters and 15 meters deep. In this cave, vases and other objects from classical antiquity and the Roman period were found.

It is alleged that in this cave people have been living since 3800 BC. At the coast near Diakofti there are several caves that are only accessible by boat. Just behind Diakofti, on a mountain, is the monastery of Agia Moni, built in 1840 and dedicated to Jesus Christ.
