Chrissi Akti, meaning Golden Beach in Greek is located 2.5km west of Chania and a few meters east of Agioi Apostoli. It actually consists of two sandy beaches separated by a small hill. The west cove is the main Golden Beach and the east one is called Aptera beach. The west bay, which is the most popular, is very well organized with umbrellas, lifeguards, showers, cafes, water sports etc. It has fine golden sand and shallow waters, making it ideal for young children. Moreover, there is a playground for kids nearby. The sandy beach of Aptera, located on the other side of the hill, is more peaceful and less organized. The beach is very nice and suitable for those who seek a place with relatively few people, close to Chania.
