A stroll in the alleys of Andros’ Chora or Andros town is the best way to understand the spirit of this Cycladic island which however is not a typical…specimen of the group. The island’s rich maritime past is evident in the many neoclassical mansions, the vibrant squares filled with cafes, pastry shops and restaurants. To get a better idea of Andros’ past, visit the Folklore & Christian Museum, that among other exhibits, shows a typical urban house with cellar. At the Kairis Library you will marvel at a particular collection showing the development of writing tools to the present. Andros has a rich winemaking tradition, still practiced in traditional wine factories that you may visit and try the 'Sinetiano' variety, made with sun dried grapes. And of course you cannot leave Andros without a box of ‘amigdalota’, the island’s traditional pastry made with almond paste, honey and rose water.
