Kouremenos Beach: The ideal beach for windsurfing and kite surfing lovers!

Kouremenos is 91 km east of Agios Nikolaos and 21 km east of Sitia, 1 km east of Palaikastro. It is the longest beach of the region, with a length of more than 1.5 km and is bounded to the north by Cape Tanta, where there is a small port, and to the south by the Kastri hill, on which there are ruins of the Palaiokastro fortress.

Near the southernmost point of the bay, called Plakopoules, Kalogeropotamos spills out, which in summer has stagnant water. A little further north is the small brackish lake of Bibikos.

The beach has fine brown sand, shallow water and many salt-trees, while it is well organized with umbrellas, showers and canteens.

Characteristic of Kouremenos is the very frequent and strong wind. Indeed, the air here is so strong that the place has become well-known to the lovers of windsurfing and kite surfing internationally. For this reason, the Sitia Mountains have many parks with wind turbines, utilizing their huge wind potential.

Windsurfing schools operate in Kouremenos, where you can also rent equipment at reasonable prices. The air at this beach is almost constant from 4 to 7 Beaufort west and with an average of 6 at summer, making Kouremenos one of the most definite spots in Europe.

Kouremenos is ideal for all levels of windsurfers. Close to the coast the sea is flat and is suitable for beginners. Also, shallow waters and sand are ideal for an easy beach start.
